1840, 3 May, 7 page letter sent to the RAJA OF REWAH (Maharaja VISHWANATH SINGH, ruled 1835-1854) . Manuscript "Service" and lower left senders name. Reverse red wax seal. Carried by diplomatic courier within the Princely state of Rewah under the British protectorate from 1812 (since 1933 part of Indore Residency). Vishwanath Singh (r. 1835-54) and his son Raghuraj Singh (r. 1854-75) witnessed the rapid British colonial expansion across North India and, a diminution of their power.
