1906/2011 (approx), All world. Interesting collection "CURIE: one family, two generations, three Nobel Prizes", consisting of 2 albums with a total of 426 items (covers cards, etc.) and 2 ring binders with stamps, souvenir sheets and miniature sheets, mostly mint, nh. The exhibit focuses on the Curie family and their life as researchers and discoverers. Marie Curie is probably the most famous physicist because of the Nobel Prizes she has received in physics and chemistry, and is also the only woman among the four multiple Nobel Prize winners to date. Irène, the older of the two Curie daughters, had inherited the scientific talent of both parents. Together with her husband Frédéricc Joliot-Curie, she succeeded in discovering artificial radioactivity, for which the couple received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. The content of the collection is thus determined on the one hand by the people involved - Marie, Pierre, Irène and Frédéric - and on the other by their discoveries - Polonium, Radium, artificial radioactivity, and their applications. This results in a casual division of the collection with its chaptering. In each of the (four) chapters, there is not only a large number of good items, but also a number of special items that excellently document what has been said: Insured letter from 1939 for 3,000 francs from Paris to Amsterdam with 11-times franking of the French special stamp showing Marie and Pirerre Curie (Mi. #433), Military postcard from 1916 with red cachet "Centre radiologique" - one of the earliest ones about physics, Cover from Hungary (1988) with the special stamp "Frédéric Joliot", unissued because of his death in 1958, commemorating his ten-year presidency of the World Peace Council, the special stamp issue "100th birthday Marie Curie" (Mi. #1777/79) each as gutter pair (mint, slight creases in the gutter) and also as stamped partial sheets, the nice omnibus issue (21 values) for the 1938 Frensch stamp "40th anniversary of the discovery of radium" (Mi. #433), and further many interesting items, like proofs, imperforates, etc.
