1894, 16 Dec. mourning cover with 10c and 15c Sage tied by " LIGNE T / PAQ.FR Nº 4 - 16 Dec. 1894" from the post packet VILLE DE LA CIOTAT then transferred to its sistership, the ARMAND BEHIC on 18 December where it received the postmark " LIGNE T / PAQ.FR Nº 1 - 18 DEC 94 " ( inverted lettering of the month DEC ! ) which left Mahé ( Seychelles ) on the 18th on a transit route through Aden, Suez and arriving Marseille on 1 January 1895. The Armand Behic was the ship on which the Impressionist PAUL GAUGUIN finally returned to France in 1893!
PROBABLY THE ONLY KNOWN FRENCH SHIP MAIL FROM THE SEYCHELLES TRANSFERRED FROM ONE VESSEL TO ANOTHER IN MAHÉ.
