1837 (ca.): MISSIONARY letter from Martha P. Robbins, Sambas, Borneo to Mrs. E. Bliss, Longmeadon, Mass., U.S.A. bearing red circled "BOSTON MASS./MAR/30" datestamp only. The comprehensive message and some pages of background information (attached) related to the emigration of Martha P. Robbins along with her husband Samuel Robbins onboard Captain W.J. Fales' "Brunette" leaving Boston on 1st July 1836, the voyage, the Sambas arrival and the situation of the Missonary Station. The letter probably was carried by private ship to Boston - in Sambas there was a Dutch Post Office only, and posted on arrival. A very interesting and early Missionary letter with a lot of information about such a life and journey.
