Birma / Burma / Myanmar: 1940. Envelope (opened on three sides for display) written from Pyapon addr
1940. Envelope (opened on three sides for display) written from Pyapon addressed to Ireland bearing Burma SG 20, 6p blue and SG 22, 1a brown (4) tied by Pyapon double ring '29th July 1940' routed via Rangoon with 'Opened by Censor' label and triangular 'Passed Censor/ Rangoon/7' in violet on face. The cover was seized by the German military in transit and German censor tape and cachet applied in Berlin. The cover was then returned to the post through the neutral authorities at Lisbon '27th May 41' on reverse, routed via England with 'Opened by Examiner / 7296' label applied and Dublin receiver '17 Jy 41' on reverse. On at least two occasions mail from Burma to the British Isles was intercepted by the Germans.
