1938, North China: "temporary postage paid chop" provisionals: 5 f. vermillion handstamp on cover canc. bilingual "CHANGTEHO 2.3.18" to "Honan.Chihsien 37.3.25" (backstamp). In the cds, the "Second Year" text was used for the 2nd year of the occupation government of North China.- Wartime covers with locally carved chops in lieu of postage stamps were used ca. January-March 1938 (North China occupation govt. 2nd year/rep. 27th year) in Honan at Changte, Chiaotso, Chihsien and in Hupeh at Chichow. Changteh in Honan Province fell to the Japanese in November 1937.- Detailed analysis of the cover (1981 letter by japanese specialist) included which states about 9 covers extant back then, a number which was increased to 10 by the actual one and was still the current state by 2017. Cover bit reduced on top not affecting the imprint (Chan 1992 $2000).
