lot # 507 - dänisch-westindien
Dänisch-Westindien: 1856 3c. carmine-red, Square Issue, ORIGINALLY GUMMED IN COPENHAGEN (WHITE GUM),
1856 3c. carmine-red, Square Issue, ORIGINALLY GUMMED IN COPENHAGEN (WHITE GUM), cancelled by mute 5-ring canceller. An extraordinary fresh stamp, mostly with very fine margins, clear margin at bottom left. The stamp belongs with certainty to the very limited number of stamps which survived the journey to the Danish West Indies with the original white gum applied at the printer (Thiele) in Copenhagen. The reverse of the stamp shows remnants of the original gum (resembling the gum used for contemporary Danish Skilling stamps) and the color of the stamp is fresh and uninfluenced by (local) coloured gum. A VERY RARE STAMP IN SUPERB AND FLAWLESS CONDITION. Møller certificate (2018)
