Neuseeland: 1855 BISECTED 1s. green on blue paper used along with 1857 2d. blue horizontal strip of
1855 BISECTED 1s. green on blue paper used along with 1857 2d. blue horizontal strip of three on 1858 lettersheet from a German Missonary at Otago to Bremen, Germany via London, cancelled by Otago numeral "18" in oval of bars, with "OTAGO NEW ZEALAND/JY 17/1858" despatch cds, red London '20 Dec 58' transit cds and boxed "BREMEN/22 12 7-8M" arrival d/s on the reverse, and marked on front "1/4" for the complete rate of 1s4d. (6d. shipletter + 2d. England inland + 8d. from London to Bremen), with London "p" in oval h/s and marked "8" for the "all in" shipletter rate to Bremen (3½d. British + 1d. Belgian + 3½d. for German-Austrian Postal Union DÖPV on basis of the contract supplement of 7th July 1852). The complete rate of 1s4d. indicates that additional adhesives for 4d. (probably two 2d. on lower left) were lost. This cover from the "Pack" collection sold by Harmer, Rooke & Co., New York in 1944, it has been cleaned since that time and the strip of three has been replaced. The lettersheet with vertical creases at left and the right hand 2d. with minor faults, otherwise fine. Although the franking of this cover is incomplete, the bisected 1s. green has been used on this lettersheet to Germany, and it is THE ONLY KNOWN COVER FRANKED BY THE BISECTED 1s. ALONG WITH OTHER ADHESIVES, AND THE ONLY COVER WITH THE BISECTED 1s. ADDRESSED OUTSIDE OF ENGLAND. 1995 certificates by Peter Holcombe and James van der Linden.
