1942 (c.) BANTAM ESSAY: King Edward VIII. essay 3p. slate, on Multiple Star watermarked paper, Perf 14, lower sheet marginal horizontal strip of 4, the lower half of a sheetlet of 8, mint lightly hinged with large part original gum, fresh and fine. This essay was an attempt, by India Security Press, Nasik, to issue stamps of reduced size due to the shortage of paper during WWII, following the South African 'Bantams' of small size, but this idea was finally given up when the hostillities ceased in Europe.
