1854 Lithographed 4a. blue & pale red from 1st printing, sheet pos. 10, cut square, used on entire letter from SINGAPORE to Calcutta, tied by diamond of dots (9x9; Proud K2) in black, and on the reverse with red double circle despatch d/s "SINGAPORE P.O./21/NOV./1855" and framed arrival dater "CALCUTTA/SHIPLETTER/1855 NOV 24/Inland Bg./Ship Do./Total" (Giles SR49). The letter's very thin and brittle paper with some gaps and holes (stabilized by piece of paper adhered inside), partially stained and vertical fold through center and at left, the stamp slightly cut at top otherwise fine. A SCARCE stamp used in Singapore, VERY SCARCE as a cut square example, and RARE on cover with the VERY RARE cancellation. (This cover proves the usage of the Indian type diamond of dots in Singapore.) A new discovery and an IMPORTANT POSTAL HISTORY COVER.
