1928, ILE DE FRANCE 10fr. on 1.50fr. blue in combination with 50c.+1fr.+1.50fr. on registered catapult cover to Trappist/USA, obliterated by sea post "NEW YORK AU HAVRE 23-8 28" and related registration mark alongside, on reverse transit marks "PARIS 23.8.28" and "WASHINGTON SEP 1 1928". Signed Bartels. These overprints were issued by authorisation of the French Consulate in New York to pay the airmail charge for the catapult flight offshore to Le Havre. Only 1000 stamps of 10fr. value were surcharged - major France and airmail rarity!
