1870 FL originating from Hamburg and addressed to Laguna, Mexico, carried by a HAPAG Line steamer "Holstatia" departing January 15th and arriving New York January 28th, where 10c U.S. franking was added by an unknown forwarding agent, then via "City of Merida" to Campeche, arriving on 7th February, with 2 reales due, overall toning, scarce usage from Germany, via New York to Mexico

Bissel in Ahmednuggur, India, paying 44c with pair of 10c brown & single 24c, red "London Paid 28 Aug. 71" transit, also "36/2" in crayon (indicating British credit) on front, oval "Sea Post Office" and red "Ahmednuggur Camp PO." arrival pmks on back, also with some inked computations (which could indicate why the Reverend saved them; he may have used
them for record keeping in lieu of scarce paper. When he returned to the U.S., he brought his records with him. Rev. Lemuel Bissell was a missionary in India from 1851 to 1891. The envelopes to Rev. Bissell came on the philatelic market in the spring of 1912 in a sale to J. Murray Bartels, a well known stamp dealer in New York City)
