1885: De La Rue Essay for proposed 2 s. 6 d. value to replace the 'St. George & Dragon' Fiscal high values, entirely hand-drawn and painted in pencil and shades of violet ink, perforations in pencil, highlighted with Chinese white on brown tracing paper (40 x 45 mm.). The Essay endorsed "A" at top left. Illustrated in "The De La Rue Collection" edited by Frank Walton RDP on page 6245. Sideface 1871/78: 9 d. blue, wmk. TAS, perf. 11½, a used example, variety "Double Print", this being a deliberate saving by the P.O. printer: the original impression was too light thus the sheet was passed through the press again, the second impression being displaced 1 mm. to lower left, lightly cancelled in black. Sideface 1878: 2 d. pale green, used with Postal Fiscal 1880 1 d. slate and 6 d. mauve, on 1883 cover to Thurgau, Switzerland endorsed "via Brindisi", tied by "25" numeral obliterators with "DELORAINE" despatch cds alongside (Aug 25) in black. The envelope and two adhesives with two chisel slits applied for disinfection - due to the Egyptian Cholera outbreak - the slits being applied in Venice. Reverse with Launceston (Aug 25), 'Ambulant No. 41' cds (Oct 6), Frauenfeld and Marstetten arrival cds (Oct 7). A scarce mixed franking to an unusual destination.

1891 (June 18): De La Rue Appendix sheet for proposed Keyplate issue rejected in favour of the 1892 bicoloured issue, with 6 d. Imperforate Colour Trials in dull lilac (8) and in dull green (4) all with various coloured Duty Plates and country löegend "TASMANIA" hand-painted in Chinese white with proposed values annotated in manuscript alongside. Manuscript at base "The 1 d. and 2 d. duties are included in the above colour scheme, although we believe that it is proposed at present to produce the stamps from the existing plates....we would proposed purple for the 1 d. and green for the 2 d.".
