At the time the internal rate for letters was 12½P plus the mandatory 5P Army Tax that in this case was paid by two of the three 2½P green fiscal stamps, the third fiscal however was not considered valid to pay for the postage and the letters were therefore taxed to doubled missing amount using 2P black on green and 3P black on salmon tax due stamps (Yvert n 34 and 35).
