 Lot 4692 - British Commonwealth south australia - DROUOT 18 of Paris 29th Mail Auction1872, Queen Victoria, 3d on 4d deep ultramarine, perf 11½-12½, surcharge omitted, Large Star watermark (SG 68c). "Blind perforations" in the left sheet margin. Unused re-joined pair. Unique. The top copy is ex Ernest Brown, Colonel Harry Napier, John Griffiths and Barton Sparrow. The bottom copy is ex Ferrary Auction Sale 7 Lot 107 where it is mentioned "Perforation incomplete, the sheet margin had been lightly perforated", bought at the auction by Mr. Caspary for 19,000 francs, later by Mr. John Boker. There are only those two copies unused in private hands and 6 used copies in existence. It is the first time in philately that this pair has been re-joined.
