Lot 2332 - China Postal stationery - Interasia Auctions Limited Sale #56-59 - China, Hong Kong and Asian stamps and postal history China, 1907 C.I.P. vertical format 1c. + 1c. green reply paid double card (119.5mm. frame), folded at right, both halves intact, used locally in Shanghai, indicia cancelled by "Shanghai/Local Post" c.d.s. (17.1.08), with printed message of Club Concordia on both sides, light even lines of toning affecting the indicia lettering and rest of left side of both cards, otherwise very fine and one of the great postal stationery card rarities. Estimate 80,000 - 100,000 ONLY SEVENTEEN INTACT RIGHT FOLDED REPLY PAID DOUBLE CARDS ARE RECORDED - TWO ARE UNUSED AND FIFTEEN USED. It has been demonstrated that these cards, the existence of which was originally discovered by Lionel Prescott in 1975, came about from sheets of cards having been miscut, therefore ranking these cards among the great postal stationery errors of world philately. In his definitive study and subsequent article update (2008), Huang Yuan-Min records thirteen intact right folded reply paid double cards used. All have printed messages in German about a masquerade ball to be held by the German Chamber of Commerce at the Club Concordia on 29 February 1908. With the exception of one card (used after the ball on 14.7.09), all were used on 17 January 1908. The above card is number 13 in Mr. Huang's listing. There are two cards previously offered in our 25 July 2009 and 26 February 2011 auctions, which were not included in Mr. Huang's listing, therefore, augmenting the recorded number of intact used right folded reply paid double cards to fifteen.
