Turkish pc pmkd Istanbul 15.1.1942, addressed to Dr. Ebner in Tel Aviv. The typed message in German: "I shall meet Sobel soon and hope to get information in regard to Frankel & Menczer ... will inform ASAP..." Aron Menczer was the director of the Youth Aliyah in Vienna and an educator. He was sent to Forced Labor Camp by LINZ (5/1941), returned to Vienna and transferred to Theresienstadt Ghetto (9/1942). He was sent to his death in Birkenau (10/1943). Without return address, but from G. BLUM of P.O.B. 207 Istanbul as per the following lot. With Palestine censor mark on front. F & very scarce

TEL AVIV - WARSAW GHETTO - TEL AVIV: 1940, Palestine enquiry form, of the War Organisation of the British Red Cross and Order of St. John, Jerusalem, from Elimelech Mendelson of Tel Aviv, to his Father, Issak Hersz Mendelson, Elektoralna 25, Flat 5, Warschau", with "DPO" (Deutsche Post Osten), added below in mss. Message dated December 16,1940: "We are healthy & well … worried about you." The Warsaw Ghetto walls were closed on November 16,1940; hence, this enquiry was written exactly one month later. With International Red Cross Geneva transit hstmp and linear dater January 3,1941 on front. Actually received in the Ghetto, with mss 23 word message (limited message of 25 words maximum was allowed): "Father healthy … we are well … Mother & Goldberg Family well in Bendzin." Message also regards another family member in Lodz. Elektoralna Street was inside the Ghetto walls, northwest to the Ghetto gate in Mierov Street. The form has a two line Polish Red Cross hstmp and Geneva Red Cross hstmp on back and faint hexagonal Palestine censor hstmp at front. (According to the printer's legend at low left, this form was printed in 5000 copies only on 20.11.40) FINE RARE EXHIBITION PIECE

Folded letter, typed in English, from the "Custodian of Enemy Property" (large English hstmp & "Certified Official" hstmp); pmkd Jerusalem 19.DE.42, addressed to the manager of the Anglo-Palestine Bank of Tel Aviv. Message regards the release of part of funds "held by me for account of the above 'ENEMY' and is to be utilized ... ". Prof. Simon Dubnov was a historian, public activist & political ideologist. He was murdered in 1941 in Riga during the expulsion of the Jews of R;ga to the Concentration Camps. Funds were to be sent to Mrs. Ehrlich of Canada. With receiving dated hstmp of the Anglo-Palestine Bank. Sealed with OHMS label. Filing holes at left affecting nothing. SCARCE
