Korea (North), Postal Stationery : 1947 (21 Apr. & 2 June) Japan 3s. stationery card and Japan 2s. stationery card, uprated with War Factory Girl 1s., both from Pyongyang to Suwa, Nagano Prefecture, Japan, the first with Soviet "GOM 817" red framed censor h.s. and the second showing American shield-type censor h.s. applied in Tokyo, both with North Korea adhesive that had been placed over the etiquette removed, very rare and important early formular stationery cards showing the usage of the old Japanese stationery cards with the new North Korea stamps (50ch., the then postcard rate) applied, very rare, the only examples of this usage during this early period we are aware of.
Estimate HK$ 1,500 - 2,000

It is our belief that these are examples of the first stationery cards denominated in chon, as opposed to the earlier cards that were in Japanese sen currency, as represented by the card in lot 3848, a North Korea 50ch. adhesive was applied by the post office before sale for the postcard rate in chon. Chronologically they are the immediate predecessors to the 3s. cards revalued with 50 chon handstamps in the following couple lots. The basic Japanese card used in the second example in the lot interestingly is actually the stationery card that had preceded the 3 sen card issued in 1944, uprated with the 1s. adhesive by the Japanese authorities to meet the new 3 sen postcard rate adopted that year.
