British Post Office 1845: Entire letter from Amherst, Nova Scotia to Hartford, Connecticut prepaid with "11½d." in red manuscript, struck with fine "♚  / PAID AT AMHERST N.S." in red with double arc AMHERST / N.S despatch cds (Aug. 30) at left displaying well on flap above; with US share "10" (cents) manuscript at right. Reverse with double arc "ST. ANDREWS / N.B." transit in blue and obverse with "Robbinston / Me." transit (Sept. 2) in red. A fine and most attractive entire Gi = £ 1'000.

1851/60: 6 d. deep green on bluish paper, the left half of a diagonally bisected example, a fresh and fine example with close to large margins, cancelled by pen cross on 1859 cover to Arichat N.S. Reverse with"PLAISTER COVE" despatch (Sept 28, 1859) despatch cds and ARICHAT arrival cds of the same day. A rare franking, the bisected adhesive paying the 3d. inland rate. Cert. Holcombe (1993) Gi = £ 5'000.

Nova Scotia 1851/60: 3 d. deep blue on bluish, a fine and fresh example with good to large margins, lightly tied by 'Bars in Oval' obliterator to cover to Halifax. Reverse with "ARICHAT N.S." despatch (Sept 20, 1858) cds in black as well as oval arrival datestamp in black. A fine item, signed A. Diena.

1794 (June 8): Seaman's letter from "Halifax" addressed to 'West Bridge Greenock' (Scotland) taxed with 1 Shilling and 5 Pence and sent by British Naval Mail bearing semi-circular 'PLYMOUTH' handstamp on front and London 'Bishop Mark July 18' on reverse with full text transcription: "..... to inform you of Being on board of his majesty's ship the Terpischore friggat for Capt. Target proved very bad to us when we came to the West Indies...." Four page lettersheet with some dust wear and paper loss at right, without any loss of text. Scarce ^Trans-Atlantic letter of an ordinary seeman with interesting content, concerning unpaid wages "...I will receive it, when the ship is paid off". The 'Terpischore' formed three years later part of Nelson's fleet in the action of Santa Cruz Teneriffe in which the Admiral lost his arm.

1799 (March 12): Entire letter (eight pages) written at Edinburgh to Charlottetown (Canada) routed via "Custom House Halifax", carried by private vessel HUNTER with HALIFAX / SHIP LRE' in black on front and boxed 'HALIFAX /Apr.26 (?) 1799' on reverse, rated 3 ½ d. collect at Halifax with  2 ½ d. ship letter fee. Fine early transatlantic letter to Canada with scarce Halifax Ship Letter marking (only few known) MacDonald #8 and #235.
