(Jan) double-rate "Riverina" cover to Yorkshire with NSW Imperf 1/- pale red - 3 margins - tied by BN '137' (rated RRR) of Moama (no datestamp) & Victoria Queen-on-Throne 6d x2 - both a bit oxidised - with manuscript "X" cancels, Melbourne transit b/s of JA17/60 & light 'HUDDERSFIELD' arrival b/s. Ex Dr Ed Druce & Trevor Davis. #9 in Dr Geoff Kellow's Census in "Sydney Views" (Aug 2004).

It was standard practice at the end of each year for datestamps to be forwarded to the Stores Branches in Sydney or Melbourne to be fitted with the new year date. Often the implements were not returned until late-January. In the interim, the originating office name - and sometimes transits - was written by hand. This cover is unusual for not being endorsed "Moama" and the date, and for the Victorian stamps not being struck with a numeral either at the first Victorian PO or at Melbourne. At this time, it is not known where the manuscript "X" was applied.
