The cover was short paid (the 7 d. rate to Italy via Alexandria had been announced but did not come into force until 3 February 1876) struck in London with "GB / 1F. 66c." accountancy marking and framed "INSUFFICIENTLY / STAMPED" in black. Duly taxed on arrival with Italy 1870 Postage Due 20 c. and 60 c. in Rome (March 21).
