Military Mail -- Two 1917 World War I letters from France to America
Excellent censor and postal markings on these letters…one from the front and another while the soldier was on leave in Paris. Text in one reads in part: "We have been getting a little more than our share the last couple of days and just between you and me -- if I had to move right now I don't know which direction I'd go in. The worst part of this game is that you can't leave your post without orders, though they knock it down around your ears and all the rest light out. I tell you some of the big shells sure would go good for digging holes...". The other in part says: "...it seems at times almost as if there were more Boche shells dropped around us than anywhere else...They put us to bed with their whistling and wake us up with their smash regular and Lord but you should see some of the holes." "We see any number of planes...last night there were 34 planes right around. The Boche go in squadrons and follow the flocks of ducks, although there are lots of single ones up also."
