KG Sale #47 Single lots: Asia, Thematics, Overseas, Europe Japan - Besonderheiten: 1872 Cover from Paris to YEDDO (today Tokio) via Brindisi and Yokohama, fran 1872 Cover from Paris to YEDDO (today Tokio) via Brindisi and Yokohama, franked by French 1862-70 Napoleon 5c. pair, 40c. and 80c. all tied by Paris numeral "20", with boxed "P.P." in red and Paris '28 Juin 72' despatch c.d.s. on front, French railway and Yokohama '10 Aout 72' transit datestamps on the reverse. The cover was addressed to a Captain of Artillery, Military Mission in Japan. Envelope opened a bit roughly (part back-flap missing), but still good. Tied to official business cover with "Yokohama" deleted and replaced by "Yap". Some covers originating form japanese occupied german south sea islands, but postmarked/Handled at Yokosuka p.o. exist. This was a general handstamp of the french posts indicating free air mail transport, done to make air mail popular, but is usually seen on covers with french stamps only.
