Carried on 'Behar' arriving Bombay on January 16, with Allahabad cds's in red and black (Jan 19) and re-addressed with fair strike of 'Lieutenant General's Camp' datestamp of receipt (Jan 20). Unframed P.D. at left and reverse with Calcutta cds in red (June 24) and oval SEA POST OFFICE / B datestamp (June 27) applied in black at Bombay. Carried on the 'Nubia' arriving Suez July 3, with Brindisi cds, Geneva cds (July 20) and arrival. Fine and appealing franking, illustrated in the handbook on page 27.

EXHIBITION ALLAHABAD cachets in red. Reverse with registered label and Allahabad cds (Feb 18) and Dharamhar cds of receipt. Delightful and very scarce. Cert. BPA (2012).

1827 (April 30): Entire letter with letter and original accounts rendered intact, mailed from Calcutta to London endorssed 'per Countess Dunmore', struck on arrival with very fine framed INDIA LETTER / DEAL handstamp in black and charged originally '5/8½d.' on reverse but altered to 2/4d. to pay on front panel; also a further 1857 cover from Calcutta to Glasgow sent unpaid by Steamer 'Bengal'.

Type 1A/Type 1B. 1868/71: Collection on leaves with Eastbound covers (17) early 1868 usage from Aden to Bombay franked by 1865 2 a. pale orange (2) tied by '124' numerals with oval SEA POST OFFICE without Set Letter (Sept 4),  'via Southampton' 9 d. frankings (mostly 1867/80 9 d. straw) including August 1868 cover from Dundee, April 1871 from Charing Cross and June 1871 cover from Windsor, 1 s. 1 d. frankings 'via Marseilles' with Sets B, C and E noted. Condition varies but most fair to fine, a scarce group. Many illustrated in the handbook on pages 15-24.

1856/64: 1 a. brown and vertical pair of 4 a. black, used on cover from Moulein, Burma to Genoa, Italy tied by 'B/127' octagonal obliterators in black with MOULMEIN datestamp (Oct 13) in red above. Framed INDIA / PAID at right and Marseille entry marking in red alongside (Nov 25). reverse with further INDIA PAID (rectangular) handstamp in red, Calcutta cds (Oct 22) and Genoa arrival. Minor surface scrape to envelope away from adhesives and not affecting appearance of a fine and rare cover.

Type 1B 1873: Cover to London franked by 1868 8 a. rose, Die II, folded over edge of envelope and tied by Bombay duplex (March 5) in black. Reverse of cover with straight line TOO LATE and front with clear fine oval SEA POST OFFICE / B datestamp in blue (March 6). The cover missed the 'Hindostan' and was carried on the 'Behar' arriving Suez on March 24 - the 'Behar' should have applied the strike on the reverse with code 'D'. London arrivals in red (April 1) on front and back. A scarce cover showing the latest Recorded Usage of Type 1B, illustrated in the handbook on page 21.

Carried on the first voyage of the 'Golconda' with reverse showing Bangalore transit datestamp (July 29) in blue and front with 'Salem' arrival (July 30). Faults to envelope and the 1 d. red at upper right but a very rare early usage (one of the earliest known) and illustrated in the handbook on page 16.rnrnNote: Under this new Contract between the British Post Office and the Peninsular & Orient Steam Navigation Company, this was the first time that non-British Nationals had handled British Mail.
