1871/72: Quadruple rate large-sized registered cover from Orlèans to St. Chély d'Apcher, bearing a mass franking of Cérès 2 c. red brown in a block of five, two single 5 c. green and two pairs and two singles of 25 c. blue type I, three of them with cliché defects, all in fine and fresh condition, tied by Gros Chiffres "2740" numeral lozenge, matching despatch (Oct 11, 72) cds and CHARGÉ in red alongside. Reverse with timbre indicatif de chargement giving a weight of 75 gram, several ambulant and transit as well as arrival (Oct 14) cds's. A stunning franking paying correctly 120 c. for a cover with a weight between 50 and 100 gram plus 50 c. registration fee.

1871/76: Selection 20 covers/entires with Cérès 1871/72 frankings, incl. 1 c. olive as part of two combination frankings, 2 c. red brown as single franking and pair on printed matter and complete journal, as well as in a mixed franking with Napoléon laureated, 5 c. green on printed matter to Switzerland and on Papiers d'affaires, 10 c. brown on rose cancelled with postman's cachet on his tour, 30 c. brown on entire to Barcelona and from Beyrouth, 10 c. brown on rose Petits Chiffres, seven examples on triple rate cover, also in combination with 20 c. blue on cover from Tunis, 15 c. bistre Petits Chiffres six examples on double rate registered letter, also in combination with Napoléon perforated 5 c., also in combination of same colour but different face value with Napoléon laureated 10 c., also in combination with 25 c. blue to pay the 40 c. rate to Germany, also four covers with 25 c. blue types I & III, one registered.

1876: Triple rate large-sized registered value cover with an insured value of 9'950 francs, sent from Loudun to St. Maixant, bearing a mass franking of Sage 75 rose carmine type I, a vertical strip of five and nine singe examples (two torn) together with single 5 c. green type II and 15 c. blue type II, tied by crisp despatch (Jan 11, 85) cds superb ingormation strike and CHARGÉ in red alongside. Reverse with timbre indicatif de chargement giving a weight of 38 gram, ambulant and arrival (Jan 13) cds's. In spite of its limitations a stunning franking paying correctly 45 c. for a cover with a weight between 30 and 50 gram plus 25 c. fixed fee and 100 times 10 c. for the insurance.

1870: Envelope from Cogolin to a prisoner of war in Dresden, bearing Bordeaux 10 c. bistre report 2 in mixed franking with Napoléon laureated 20 c. blue type I, two fine and fresh examples, each tied by Gros Chiffres '1067' numeral lozenge, despatch cds (June 4, 1871) and postman's handstamp 'B' alongside. Reverse with "KRIEGSGEFANGENEN - DEPOT DRESDEN" handstamp in bluish green, distribution (July 3) cds and Marseille ambulant. The cover was found to be underfranked, but not taxed. When arriving in Dresden, the POW was already released and obviously on its way home, noted as 'Entlassen' on reverse. Signed Pothion.

Reverse with Lavardac transit (March 4) cds. Horizontal file fold just mentioned for accuracy, nevertheless a most attractive usage of this rarer shade, certs. Reverse with Lille transit and TOURNAY (Oct 15, 71) arrival cds. An interesting rayon frontière cover from France to Belgium, showing a letter rate lower than the inland rate.
