KG 58th AUCTION - Day 4Airmail - Overseas: 1935/1941 "PAN AMERICAN AIRWAYS TRANSPACIFIC CLIPPER AIR-MAI 1935/1941 "PAN AMERICAN AIRWAYS TRANSPACIFIC CLIPPER AIR-MAIL": Exhibition collection of more than 150 covers and postcards depicting the development and history of PanAm Transpacific airmail, from early 1935 test flights to WWII flights, with test flights by Clipper Sikorsky S-42 (April 1935), opening of the Pacific route in Nov. 1935 and following flights including European mail to Manila across the Atlantic and Pacific ocean, up to 1941 flights to Singapore and Suva (extension of routes FAM14 and FAM 19). This extraordinary collection contains mail from different flights, routes, destinations etc. with different cachets, postmarks and frankings, also many specials like connection flights from Germany (to Lakehurst by Zeppelin in 1936), or from Liechtenstein and Switzerland, from Netherlands to Manila, or from Penang to the U.S.A., find also covers from Macau and Hongkong, airmail from China including rare 1937 Beijing-Shanghai-Hongkong-San Francisco cover, mail from the Philippines, New Zealand and from New Caledonia, censored cover from India to Switzerland via China-Hongkong-U.S.A.-Lisboa-Geneve, or a WWII censored cover from Peru to Singapore redirected to Syria and France, also WWII airmail from Bahrain and Burma, Thailand and Australia, Singapore and Fiji, and others. The collection is accompanied by about 15 further covers (not on exhibition pages), 7 different PanAm shares (1950/1984) and literature as Proud's "Transatlantic and Pacific Airmail", "U.S. International Postal Rates, 1872-1996", similar volume but domestic rates, Krupnick's "Pan American's Pacific Pioneers" (two volumes) and others.
