Crash Covers, Korea/Japan/Philippines - 1954 Philippine Air Lines Crash : 1954 (12 Jan.) airmail envelope (opened out for display) from the Chief Commander of the Swiss Team Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission (for the Korean War Armistice) to Switzerland, bearing Japan Maejima 1y. and Airmail 20y. (other adhesives floated off) cancelled by "…otel/Japan" c.d.s., showing Italian "Correspondenza recuperata in sequito/incidente aero del 14 Gen. 1954" crash h.s. and on reverse Swiss "Lettre sauvée de la catastrophe/aérienne de la ligne Manille-Londres,/avion tombé près de Rome le 14.1.54./Lausanne 2 exp. letters." crash label, inconsequential light soiling, a very interesting origin for this accident from the Commander of the Swiss Korean War Armistice monitoring team in Korea.

Savoie" c.d.s. (4.30) on reverse, few light glaze spots, fine. Two contemporary newspaper accounts of the crash in German accompany the lot.

The Air India Boeing B-707 "Kanchenjunga" crashed into Mont Blanc in the Alps on its descent into Geneva, with the loss of all 117 aboard (106 passengers, 11 crew). Among the deceased was Dr. Homi Bhabha, the father of India's nuclear program. The plane was on its Beirut-Geneva leg, as part of a flight from Bombay-Delhi-Beirut-Geneva-Paris-London.

Crash Covers, Indochina - 1929 Paris-Saigon Interrupted Flight : 1929 (1 Dec.) registered Paris-Saigon experimental flight envelope from Verdun to Saigon, bearing Merson 5fr. pair and Pasteur 1fr.50c., showing "Courrier Accidentè" crash h.s., with Marseille transit (3.1.30, after its recovery from the crash) and Saigon arrival (29.1.30) c.d.s. on reverse, along with "Ligue Aéronautique de France" bicolour label, very fine.

The three airmen Lassalle, Reybard and Faltot were attempting a flight from Paris to Saigon in a Nieuport monoplane. After successful landings in Marseille, Algiers and Tunis, it crashed 14 December 1929 near Syrte, Tripolitania on the leg from Tunis to Benghazi with the loss of all three airmen. Mail was recovered from the flight and returned to Marseille on 3 January 1930.

(2.7), airmail etiquette floated off and some water staining as customary for this accident, fine.

The Air Orient Saigon-Marseille experimental flight by Beauregard and three crew members crashed on 7 June 1931 in the Sandoway River, near Akyab, Burma, with the loss of all four persons aboard.
