1857/59: 4 d. dull rose, two examples in a deep shade, margins to frame of design, used with 1 d. blue, all tied by oval barred obliterators to 1859 cover and part back, no side flaps, endorsed 'Via Marseilles' from Kandy to London. 'London / Paid' cds in red also tying the adhesives (Aug 1). Reverse with KANDY / POST PAID datestamp in red of despatch (June 25). Minor file folds well away from the extraordinarily rare adhesives, an attractive and extremely rare cover. Cert. RPSL (1989).

1857/59: 1 s. slate-violet, a fine example with good to large margins all round in a bright shade, used on 1860 entire letter at double rate to London endorsed 'per Overland Mail via Marseilles' cancelled by oval barred obliterator in black. Reverse with COLOMBO / POST PAID datestamp in red (Jan 16)  with London arrival cds (Feb 18) alongside in red. A delightful and scarce cover.

1857/59: 6 d. purple-brown, State III, Plate Proof block of eight (4 x 2), positions 7-10 / 19-22 on the sheet, unwatermarked, with full sheet margin at top, large margins on three sides and one stamp touched, fresh and fine in the rather 'flat' Plate Proof shade without blueing. Minor bend not affecting appearance but an attractive block.
