Verticais 1850: 60 r. black, a vertical pair with ample to large margins all round and showing portions of adjoining stamps at left, used on reverse of 1866 entire letter from Rio Grande to Manchester endorsed "via Rio de Janeiro" and "Delph" at top, tied by Rio Grande cds  with Rio transit (July 16); carried at double rate and underpaid for this tariff, struck with oval "INSUFFICIENTE" in red on despatch. London transit (Aug 19) in red and struck with "FR / 2F 95c." Accountancy marking in black with Manchester arrivals of the following day and charged "2/6d." due to pay. Opened sensibly for display, a fine and most attractive entire.

Coloridos 1854: 10 r. blue, a used vertical strip of three with large margins on three sides, one side overlapped by 1866 Dom Pedro 200 r. black in a horizontal pair making up the single rate of 430 reis; on 1868 cover to Laurito, Naples, Italy tied in manuscript with cruciform date "22-4-1868 Jacailinio" in ink. Framed "P.D." in red at base and reverse with Rio de Janeiro cds of transit (May 1) and Naples cds (June 4). Refolded and some internal restoration but a scarce usage.

Incoming Mail 1871/75: France Cérès 80 c. carmine, a vertical pair used on 1873 double rate cover from Paris to Campinos, Sao Paulo, Brazil endorsed "via Southampton par Steamer Anglais 9 Octobre 1873" at top, tied by Paris Star 4 and Paris / Rue D'Enghien despatch cds (Oct 8). Carried at double rate on RMSP "Douro" arriving in Rio on Oct 31 (with cds on reverse). A fine and attractive cover.

Coloridos 1861: 430 r. yellow, a vertical pair with good to large margins all round, used on 1866 cover carried at double rate from Rio de Janeiro to Leipzig endorsed per French Packet "pr. Guienne Str. via Bordeaux" tied by dotted roller handstamps and Rio despatch datestamp in black. Framed "P.D." in red applied in Rio, thence via Bordeaux and Aachen to Leipzig (March 24). A spectacular and very rare cover. Signed Knapp.

Inclinados 1844/46: 60 r. black, Types IIa, two horizontal pairs on Perkins Bacon paper with large margins mostly all round, second stamp showing the re-entry horizontal line at base clearly, used on 1846 entire letter written from New York to John Pedrick, the US Consul in Rio Grande, endorsed "pr. Kathleen via Rio"; tied on application by Forwarding Agent with notation on reverse ("Rec'd and forwarded by "Coleman Hutton & Co.") in manuscript, by "CORREIO GERAL DA CORTE" datestamps (Oct 28) in black. Carried at triple the Maritime rate of 240 reis, being one of just three covers recorded - see W.G. Taveira "Inclinados" page 356. A rare and spectacular cover, especially with the adhesives on the obverse of the cover. Note: A most unusual routing - there was no direct American Packet at this date. Provenance: Collection R. Ville de Rio de Janeiro", tied by gros chiffres in black with "Le Havre Port" cds bvelow (March 2). Framed red "P.P." alongside and charged "200" reis due to pay upon arrival (March 21) with Pernambuco cds on reverse. Some aging but an attractive cover. Signed Roumet.
