London transit (Aug 19) in red and struck with "FR / 2F 95c." Accountancy marking in black with Manchester arrivals of the following day and charged "2/6d." due to pay. Kathleen via Rio"; tied on application by Forwarding Agent with notation on reverse ("Rec'd and forwarded by "Coleman Hutton & Co.") in manuscript, by "CORREIO GERAL DA CORTE" datestamps (Oct 28) in black. Carried at triple the Maritime rate of 240 reis, being one of just three covers recorded - see W.G. Taveira "Inclinados" page 356. A rare and spectacular cover, especially with the adhesives on the obverse of the cover. Note: A most unusual routing - there was no direct American Packet at this date. Provenance: Collection R.
