Cover 'per French packet' bearing GB 3d and 1/- tied by the despatch duplex cancellation, with oval 'PD' in red. A fine strike of the very rare "HONG KONG TO SHANGHAI" marine sorter type 6 dated 1875 (29/5 July) on reverse. Most mail sorted at sea from the United Kingdom received the Singapore to Hong Kong marine soter. This cover, conveyed by French Mail, was not sorted until it reached Hong Kong. Webb recorded 5 or less such sorter although more exist. "CUSTOMS HOUSE * SHANGHAI * PAID" oval arrival datestamp (5 July) in red - only 17 recorded.
