Auction 359 is huge with 7,578 lots, catering for all types of collectors & dealers - from bulk accumulations and intact collections to desirable single items. This auction offers a huge range of material, with special emphasis on lotting stamps to cater for collectors with varying types of interests and budgets. Items range from $30 to $80,000 so there's something for everybody.
This auction offers strong representation of Australia & Colonies, strong British Empire material of all areas & periods, as well as General Foreign including small and large collections. There are 300 lots of Australian Collections (Lots 247 - 551) and almost 400 lots of World collections (Lots 552-929). Following on there is almost 2200 lots of Australia which consist of singles, sets and covers including Australian colonies (Lots 968-3116). The Australian lots cover all periods, from the Kangaroo issues up to Decimal and contains numerous number of mint & used £1 & £2 top values - this includes a C of A Watermark £2 Black & rose Ash imprint pr inc variety 'open mouthed kangaroo' at right. Superb fresh stamps both MUH, pristine never hinged original gum, MLH in gutter only, bright colours. SG 138(var) cat £8500 as M singles, should be at least double, £17,000 MUH singles plus premium for imprint multiple. There are almost 4,500 lots of World stamps, covers and single country collections (Lots 3117-7578) with the British Empire well represented, highlighted by a Malaya - FMS: 1900 opt Elephants $25 green & orange top value. 1941 Censored Airmail cover with 'Sydney 3 DEC 41' franking machine 3/11 imprint for ½oz to Canada, with censor tape & h/s plus 'California Clipper' h/s. The last flight left Auckland on 25th Nov, but suspension of the service not announced until 18th Dec, so sender paid for airmail, but was sent normal seamail, so grossly overpaid!
