1871: Unpaid letter from "FALMOUTH" to "FIUME", taxed in transit with 25 kr., the equivalent of 5 gr. which was double the rate for unpaid mail. Due to the increased charge unpaid mail was unpopular and thus such tax marks are increasingly rarer the later they are (Van der Linden fig. 3175). In 1871 any such markings, applied in transit from "OSTEND" to "AACHEN" are very rare indeed.

1873 (8. Jul.): 1 d. red, letterd "RG" plate 138 on newspaper wrapper with complete price list as printed matter from "LONDON" to "MONCORVO"/Portugal via "LISBON". The wrapper bears the boxed "P.BRIT.o" "Paquette Britannico" from Lisbon and an oval "FRANCA" mark. A "LISBON" transit and an arrival mark are on the reverse. Interesting and very attractive.
