Cherrystone Auctions Imperial Russia: Zemstvo Stamps & Postal History

Wednesday Nov 13, 2013 10:00 America/New_York

At the turn of the 20th Century, Zemstvo was one of the most popular collecting areas in philately.  Famous collectors such as Baron Ferrary, Agathon and Oleg Faberge, Friedrich Breitfuss, Carl Schmidt and other philatelists were fascinated by this intriguing subject.  After the sale of the legendary Faberge collection in 1999, interest in Zemstvo philately has experience somewhat of a rebirth, with hundreds of active collectors all over the world competing for material which is in relatively limited supply.
We are pleased to present another specialized auction dedicated to the stamps and postal history of Russian Rural Local Post, arranged in alphabetical order from Akhtyrka to Zolotonosha.  This sale contains 526 lots, singles and groups, with varieties and covers, multiples and full sheets, many ex-Michel Liphschutz collection, offered at auction for the first time.
