Canton, 1840 (22 June) "triplicate" entire letter from Wetmore & Co. Canton to London (8.2.41) "(per) Mary Elizabeth" concerning a shipment of tea that had been sent aboard a Spanish vessel to Capsingmoon for transshipment there direct to England "should conveyances offer, otherwise" via Manila or Singapore, showing very fine "Ship Letter/Crown/Liverpool" c.d.s. (7.2) on reverse, rated "8", small mended tear at top (through backflap; not affecting markings), fine and scarce letter from Canton during the early part of the First Opium War from an American merchant sent through the British blockade.
