"Flying Machine Equilibrium Apparatus" 1911 Patent, August 29, 1911 patent awarded to Augustus F.W. Macmanus for his "Flying Machine Equilibrium Apparatus," with three pages of text and four pages of technical drawings, minor faults including toning and tears but still Fine, a very interesting and rare document from the earliest days of aviationrnLittle is known about Macmanus, except that he was a Lieutenant in the US Army. Many early aviation publications make brief references to him, including his Curtiss-like airplane which was involved in at least one serious crash. The Elbridge Engine Company produced a booklet ca. 1910 that contained the following passage:rn"We know that Lt. A.F.W. Macmanus of San Antonio, Texas, with an unsual monoplane of his own design, has made some experimental flights."
