lot # 590 - Cuba postal history

Thursday Dec 27, 2018 19:00 America/Argentina/Buenos_Aires

Special envelope for Spanish soldiers in the "Ejército de Operaciones de la Isla de Cuba", sent from Habana to Buenos Aires (Argentina) on 5/FE/1897, very unusual destination and probably the only cover in existence sent to Buenos Aires. On back it bears transit marks of St. Thomas (18/FE), Rio de Janeiro (7/AP), and arrival to Buenos Aires 17/AP. Envelopes of this type were prepared for the Spanish soldiers to send letters to their families in Spain (and were free franked for that purpose), and as this cover was sent to a different country it received the postage due marks (several on front and back), very fine quality, very rare!
