1894. Registered stampless Official mail envelope (tear, fold) addressed to Papeete cancelled by Maugareva/Taiti double ring in violet 1st Avril 94' with framed hand-struck 'R' and endorsed 'R/No 21' with circular 'Archipel de Gambier/Magareva' in violet on face and Papeete receiver '18th Avril' on reverse. Pre 1900 registered mail from Mangareva a small atoll in the Gambier Islands is very rare. The islands was known for its pearls. A superb exhibition quality item.
