1959 THE FAMOUS UNISSUED RED 50 F JEAN JAURES (1859-1914), no gum and in fine condition. This stamp of the famous french socialist was not issued because of its red colour, finally a different version in black-lilac was accepted. The whole stock of the red Jean Jaures stamps was destroyed by the french post. ONLY 12 EXAMPLES WITH A "PARAOBLIT RATION" SURVIVED (Maury 1217 A "RR") and one example without this security marking which is priced in the Maury catalogue at 50.000 EUR. A similar mistake happened 1968 in Germany with the stamp for the conservative german chancellor Konrad Adenauer printed in red and not issued. A MAJOR RARITY OF FRENCH PHILATELY.
