Sale 707 The Knapp Collection of Airmail Flights

1870 (Nov 24), Ville d'Orléans (Scott BM33), formular Ballon Monté letter sheet to Raubaix clearly postmarked "Paris/ Pl. de la Bourse", Nov 23, but with stamp missing, backstamped Raubaix, Dec 5, Fine. This flight landed in Norway after a rough and stormy voyage, during which it became necessary to throw some mail overboard to lighten the load. That mail was eventually recovered but showed the effects of having been tossed into the sea—including missing stamps.
