germany - Stamp Auctions

The Federal Republic of Germany, better known "Bundesrepublik Deutschland", "BRD" and "West Germany", was established after the end of WWII from eleven states in the Allied Occupation Zones. The Soviet zone becomes the German Democratic Republic, "Deutsche Demokratische Republik", "DDR", and "East Germany". On May 23, 1949 the Federal Republic was founded and it was declared "fully sovereign" on May 5, 1955.

The first official postage stamp of the Federal Republic was issued on September 7, 1949 to publicize the First Federal Assembly. Germany collector community is one of the largest in the philatelic world, it can be observed by the large number of stamp clubs, shops and stamp auction houses.

German stamps dissipate historical and current events as well as famous persons.

Since the reunification of 1990, the new unified nation is now known as "Deutschland" or "Germany".
