Ballon Monté No. 64 1871 (Jan 21): Entire letter to Spa, Belgium endorsed 'par Ballon Monté', franked by 1863/67 30 c. brown, tied by 'Paris / SC' datestamp (Jan 21) in red with framed 'PD' in black. Flown from beseiged Paris on the Ballon "Le Général Daumesnil" with Spa arrival cds (Jan 24) on reverse and circular "Ministre de Finances" circular handstamp in black. Superb and very scarce - the letter mentions Pigeons arriving safely and 'le bombardment continue...'. Maury = € 650+.
