Auction 12 is our usual large & diverse auction. We thought that by moving the box lots to their own auction we would be able to make our auctions a little smaller, however we still have over 2,000 lots in the auction. The first section of the catalog has 653 lots of non-Australia, PPCS, coins, ephemera etc. Among the more interesting are 3 Ceylon Telegraph stamp proofs (#94), A set of 8 'BERLIN' ovpts in black on Berlin Airlift cvrs (#215), an 1839 Charles Whiting essay (#280). Also within the GB section are some very fine stamps including, a spectacular 9d straw pane of 20 ovpts 'SPECIMEN', a very rare £1 brown-lilac Specimen (#315), a mint £5 orange (#319) and one mint & two used £1 Seahorses (#337-9). Within Southern Africa we have a nice mint 1d PB Cape triangle (#604), a group of Mafeking Siege stamps (#609-12) and a South Africa £1 pale olive-green & red (#614). The second section of the catalogue has 729 lots of Australian Collinies/States and Roos and KGV Heads. Some of the high lights are 1d Sydney View on ribbed paper (#660), a unique Queensland 1898 4d proof of colour block of 6 (#725), a Tasmania 1855 6d dull lilac proof (#777), a 1917 separated and overprinted 1½d Rely Card (#788), an extraordinary 1884Teelegraph Envelope with an apparaently unique 2/- TO PAY as well as an IOU accepted by the Telegraph messenger (#827). We continue with third selection from Ken Smithies' Victorian Postmark collection (#832-906 group). These have been very popular with much fierce competition. We then have another excellent group of Roos with a very fine mint 1st wmk £2 (#1025), a very rare 2nd wmk 1/- JBC monogram single (#1039), 3rd wmk 2/- brown JBC & CA monogram singles (#1090-1) and an MUH Sm Mult £2 (#1160). In the KGV lots there is an ½d green cracked SW corner (#1215), a 1d rose-pink rough paper mint block of 4 (#1232) and a CofA 1d green reversed wmk (#1369). Amongst the many covers is a very rare Large Mult ½d thin fraction on cover. Some of the standout items of the third section are a group of plate number blocks including 1950 2d scarlet plate '2' block of 12 (#1431), 1956 2/- Crocodile plate '9' block of 4 (#1439), 1953 3d green plate '-1-' block of 12 (#1448) and 1962 2d brown plate '3' block of 8 (#1456). There are a range of missing colours including 1965 Hargrave missing purple (#1477), 1969 5c Xmas missing yellow (#1527), 1972 7c Xmas missing brown (#1534), 1974 30c Possum missing red (#1540), 1974 7c Golf missing black (#1541) and a 1979 20c Train missing grey-green (#1559). The Australian Territories include such sought after items as a Nauru marginal mint 5/- Waterlow Seahorse, seven £1 NWPI, a very rare 1st wmk 5/- Roo NWPI use at Nauru (#1898), a rare 1d rosine Die II perf 'OS" NWPI (#1925) and a lovely £5 Bulolo. There is quite an array of Australian Postal Stationery include quite a number of large collections. As you would expect we have a large selection of postal history with rare usages, military, flight covers including a 1920 Herald Aerial Delivery cover (#1786) and a 1939 Guba cover (#1810) etc. Amongst the crash covers is a rare 1952 Venlo cover (#1816).
