Entire letter from Havana to Madrid, receiving its first postmarks at Corunna in Spain, with blue oval "Galicia/Coruña", which was struck in error and subsequently obscured by a blurred strike of Italic "Islas De/Barlovento." handstamp (P.E. 2), repeated at right, and "36.R" rate cachet denoting an unpaid maritime fee as per 2 ounces 2 adarmes. A rare and high rate.

The earliest date recorded for this "Empresa" handstamp, additionally one of at most five items known bearing this in red.

Entire letter from Matanzas via Cádiz to Madrid, with oval "Correo Maritimo./N°. 3" handstamp (P.E. 46) in yellow with, on reverse, blue "1½" & "4" rate marking and Madrid c.d.s., additionally struck on front with 'Baeza' c.d.s. and charged "9R" in red on arrival. An exceptional example bearing six different postmarks including the very rare "Empresa" marking in yellow and three different rates.

Cuba Outgoing Mail 1842, Nov. 2. Entire letter from Havana via Cádiz to Madrid, endorsed "Manolito", the ship conveying this letter, bearing Madrid c.d.s. "13" reales due marking in red on arrival, Italic "Islas De/Barlovento" handstamp (P.E. 3) in red, possessing the same shade as the Cádiz c.d.s. applied on reverse and thus proving that it was struck at Cádiz. Entire letter from Havana to Santander (Spain), erroneously postmarked with red "Buenos/Ayres" in two lines denoting a mistaken origin, "5 R 1" rate markings including the single maritime rate and 1 cuarto war tax. Vertical fold and some slight soiling at right. An extraordinary application of a "Buenos Ayres" postmark on mail emanating from Cuba.
