Interasia’s General Sale of China and Asian Countries stamps and postal history includes important China Ching Dynasty and Republic, substantial postal history, postal stationery, Chinese Local Posts and Foreign Post offices in China, Taiwan, and Tibet.
Day One (December 10) comprises China Ching Dynasty and Republic from early mail to 1949 (lots 57-704). The early mail includes an interesting and historically important section of China postal history detailing the December 1896 - January 1897 transitional period between the Customs Post and the establishment of the Imperial Post. The classic stamps include complete sheets of all three 1878 Large Dragon values, outstanding sections of the 1894 Dowagers and 1897 New Currency issues including one of two recorded blocks of four of the legendary “Red Ruby”, extensive Red Revenues including the unsurcharged, the iconic Small One Dollar and notable covers. The Republic of China include a strong section of the Provisional Neutrality issues, the Hall of Classics $2 inverted center and the 1941 American Banknote Dr. Sun Yat-sen $2 inverted center.The China collections conclude this outstanding day.
Day Two (December 11; lots 2001-2420) continues with Chinese Provinces, highlighted by one of the Four Treasures of the Republic - the Sinkiang 1915 $1 transposed characters variety - and a magnificent collection of the 1946-48 Manchuria Local Overprints offered intact, Japanese Occupation of China, Manchukuo, Chinese Local Posts, Foreign Post Offices in China, China postal stationery and covers, Taiwan, Tibet, and Mongolia.
Interasia’s December 10 -12 Auctions
Interasia’s December 10-12 auctions of China, Hong Kong and Asian stamps and postal history will take place at the Excelsior Hotel in Causeway Bay in Hong Kong. The three-day, 2,300-lot sale includes another outstanding offering of China and Hong Kong stamps and postal history, with important Ching Dynasty and Republic, substantial postal history, Taiwan, Tibet, and a large offering of People’s Republic and Liberated Areas. Hong Kong and Treaty Ports alone comprise almost 400 lots, while an outstanding Macau collection is presented in an additional 140 lots.
The auctions feature the two iconic stamps of China and Hong Kong - the 1897 Red Revenue Small One Dollar and the mint 96c. Olive-Bistre, as well as one of the greatest PRC rarities - the 1968 unissued large format “Whole Country is Red.”
