Interasia Auctions Limited Sale #39 - People’s Republic of China and Liberated Areas

Sunday Jan 12, 2014 13:30 Asia/Hong_Kong

Interasia’s January 11-14 auction of China, Hong Kong and Asian stamps and postal history will take place at the Excelsior Hotel in Causeway Bay in Hong Kong. The four day, 3,600 lot sale includes another outstanding offering of China and Hong Kong stamps and postal history, with important Ching Dynasty and Republic, substantial postal history and a large offering of People’s Republic and Liberated Areas with major rarities. Among the Hong Kong and Treaty Ports highlights is the earliest recorded letter from Hong Kong.

Session 5 is the over 600-lot section of People’s Republic of China and Liberated Areas and represents another outstanding offering of these popular subjects, for which Interasia has become known. Complementing multiple examples of the popular sets and miniature sheets are nearly all the major PRC rarities, including the 1952 unissued Russian Revolution set with the Soviet inscription error in pristine mint marginal or imprint blocks of four (the only set of blocks of four we are aware of), the 1958 Student Union errors both mint and used, the 1968 unissued large format “Whole Country is Red” (of which less than ten examples are thought to exist), a superb mint marginal example of the 1968 unissued Victory stamp, and the iconic, 1968 issued vertical format “Whole Country is Red” in a lovely mint imprint example.
