1848-59, 1d vermilion and orange-vermilion, EARLY IMPRESSION, two unrepaired used examples with slightly touched margins otherwise in good condition. They come from POSITION 1 & 3 of the printing plate of 12. The engraving is sharp and clear and shows the characteristics of the earliest printing (SG 32.000 GBP) but they are not on the thick yellowish paper necessary to be classified as earliest. 1848 Post Paid 2d blue, EARLY PRINTING on yellowish paper from POSITION 4 in the plate of 12. A very fine example with full to large margins all around and lightly cancelled by a circle of thick bars. The plate position 4 shows its most obvious plate characteristic in the bottom right corner.
A beautiful example of this scarce stamp. Certificate BPA (2014) which describes the paper colour as greyish. SG 8 = 7000 GBP

1880: postal stationery formular card "MAURITIUS POST CARD" franked with 2c stamp (SG 83) cancelled by VERY RARE NUMERAL "19" of SOUILLAC sent to Port Louis with backstamp (MR 9.80). Very fine. The NUMERAL 19 IS ONE OF THE RAREST OF MAURITIUS ACCORDING TO IBBOTSOM (see p.52). Proud mentions on p. 385 that Souillac has only sent 13 postcards in 1879 and 272 postcards in 1882.
