1854 PENANG: India lithographed 4a. blue & red, Head Die III, Frame Die II, sheet pos. 14 (if Wmk normal) or 17 (if Wmk reversed) used in PENANG, Straits Settlements and cancelled by superb strike of "B/147" octagonal numeral, cut-to-shape with even wide margins around, fresh and very fine. A superb example of this scarce stamp used in Penang. Signed Holcombe. (SG for cut-to-shape £2500)

1855 India used in MALACCA: Indian QV 8a. carmine, on bluish glazed paper, horizontal pair used and cancelled by fine and clear strikes of Bengal type numeral "B/109" of MALACCA, the right hand stamp with a light diag. 'wave' (no crease) and few slightly shortened perfs, but still a fresh and fine pair, and a VERY RARE USAGE OF INDIAN STAMPS IN MALACCA. (SG from £2000)

1871: Envelope addressed to Philadelphia, U.S.A. bearing 1867-68 QV 2c. brown, 8c. orange and 32c. pale red tied with "SINGAPORE/A/JY 14/71"--"A14" duplex d/s and with circular firms cachet in blue (with date), endorsed 'via Brindisi' with 'London/Paid' transit in red, and rated '1/8' in red crayon, with New York hand-struck '2/Cents' accountancy in red. A FINE AND VERY RARE COVER OF TRANS-ATLANTIC MAIL FROM SINGAPORE PAYING THE 42 CENT RATE...

1873 Folded cover from Singapore to Genova, Italy via Brindisi franked by 1867 24c blue-green tied by partial strikes of small circle of bars (probably Proud K11), red "SINGAPORE PAID/OC 4/73" cds (Prouf PD7) and red "P.D." (Proud PD5) alongside, Brindisi transit cds and Genova arrival cds on reverse. Cover somewhat creased and stained, a short tear at upper right and two bends, but an interesting item bearing scarce Singapore postmarks.

1886, QV 8 C. orange tied grid and canc. oval security chop "C. M. BANK, PENANG" to cover endorsed "Via Brindisi" w. "PENANG OC 2 86" alongside to Vienna/Austria. Brindisi backstamp and Wien arrival. On reverse embossed seal "CHARTERED MERCHANT BANK OF INDIA AND AUSTRALIA".

Singapore. Posted by M. Phillips late of D.A.Bank Singapore on 3 Apl. 15" via "HONG KONG 16 APL 15" and US and was back after 325 days. Cover travelled unsealed with return postage...
