The 27th International Public Auction, taking place from 10th - 14th of February 2014, presents a diverse offer of international philately and numismatics with more than 20,000 lots in 11 catalogues, among them over 6,000 collections.
In addition to the usual catalogues we published the 3 special catalogues BRAZIL, ENCASED POSTAGE STAMPS & POSTAGE CURRENCY NOTES – Collection Frederic Le Noir and OTTOMAN EMPIRE – Collection Ibrahim Pasha.
There are many highlights from this substantial and varied offer. Even so we would like to point to a great offer STAMP BOOKLETS WORLDWIDE, the exceptional part NEWFOUNDLAND AIRMAILS as well as the high quality lots USA CLASSIC. Very well represented are: FRANCE with 400 lots, ITALY with 250 lots (also a lot of Classic and States), CROATIA with 87 lots, GREAT BRITAIN (early letters with destinations worldwide) and LUXEMBOURG with 83 lots.

Starting January 1st, 2014 the German VAT for collectibles including stamps and coins was increased from 7% to 19%.
We hardly tried to find solutions for our valuable customers not only to minimize the disadvantages but even to benefit from the increase of taxation. In opposite to numerous other auction companies, we auctioneer under our own name acting on our own account (not as an agent).
As the majority of our lots are taxed under margin system no tax at all will be charged on top neither on the hammer price nor on the buyer’s premium for these lots. Only those lots with regular VAT rate of 19% are marked in the catalogues by a point after the lot number (ie 3412• ); this VAT is only charged when shipped within the EC – not charged when shipped outside the EC.
For purchased lots under margin system delivered within Germany and the EC, the Christoph Gärtner Auction Company pays and transfers the VAT. Due to this regulation significant incremental costs were caused. We don’t pass them on to you in full, but on a very small scale: we increase of the buyer’s premium from 20% to 22%.
By implementation of the margin system purchasing of relevant lots will be 5% cheaper now for EC buyers.
Lots purchased in order to be carried out to Non-EC-Countries are exempted from taxation as before.
