This catalogue contains a great selection of Australian coins including Australian Shipwrecks, Adelaide Pound, Dump, Proclamation coins, Gold Sovereigns and Half-Sovereigns, pre-decimal coins and Proofs, Error Coins, RAM , Perth Mint and NPA products. There are many highlights in the Australian Coins including Three Australian 1930 Pennies. One is graded in a VF/VF and the others are gF and aF and are Reserved at $17,000 and 16,000 and $10,000 respectively (Lots 5846, 5848 and 5847). This auction also includes a VERY RARE 1852 Adelaide Assay Office Pound Type II, Earlier die state with slight edge weakness around 3 o'clock & corresponding position on rev. Some surface mks. Underlying brilliance. VF or better. Rare. Reserve $10,000 (Lot 5423).

 

In the Australian Banknotes section includes Pre-Federation, Pre-decimal, Specimens, Decimal, Starnotes and Varieties . This sale includes a rare £100 Cerutty-Collins, bold serial numbers, suffix Z. Nice strong colours, a couple of tiny, not visible unless note is held to the light, repaired margin nicks. gFor better but looks VF. McD 69a Cat F $65,000, VF $120,000. One of the rarest Australian notes issued with only a handful known. (Lot 6678). Also in the Australian issues - £1 Collins-Allen WWI Emergency issue or Rainbow Pound last prefix. F 554209 F. Note has had considerable restoration, the paper has been strengthened, the note being stiffer & thicker than a normal note. R-20bL. F appearance. McD cat $36,000. A presentable budget example for the collector who prefers not to spend $25,000 or so on a better example. Reserve $ 7,500 (Lot 6607) .

 

World coins and banknotes, including Gold, silver and copper coins, medals and World Banknotes . In the World Coins is a GB 1687 TERTIO James II 5/-. Well struck, very slight hay marking o/w Practically as struck. Tiny natural reverse rim indentation near 16 of date (not an edge knock). Nicer than any example that has been offered for sale of at auction in recent years. Definitely a wow coin. S-3407 cat EF £4250, unpriced higher . Reserve $8,000 (Lot 7260). Also in the world banknote section is a China Central Bank of The Republic of China ND (c1923) 10 Cents (1 Hao) pr. Issued by Grand Marshal Sun Yat-sen of a self proclaimed government in Guangzhou Canton. Unlisted in catalogues, only 7-10 single notes known. This pr could be unique. A similar grade single note sold for RMB 92,000 (AUD $18,000) at Hosane Auction, Shanghai 19 Dec 2011 lot 2856 and a pair always worth considerably more. Reserve $20,000 ( Lot 7617).

SG O14 cat £10,000 for M, and this period should be triple, £30,000 MUH. ACSC 51Bb cat $15,000 for M OS & normal cats x4 MUH, so would be $60,000 MUH! Perf OS examples of the £1 are exceedingly rare & we have only offerred 1 in last 15 years, while the large majority offerred for sale elsewhere have been very doubtful. This is only the 2nd genuine perf OS example in MUH condition known to us. Provenance is the left stamp from the pair ex Arthur Grey auction 2007. Important Officials rarity.(Lot 837). Great rarity of GB philately with less than 30 M/UN examples recorded, of which most of the others are no gum, regummed or with faults. This original gum example is definitely one of the best quality examples known. There are almost 1,800 lots of World stamps, covers and single country collections (Lots 1791-3653) with the British Empire well represented, highlighted by a 1907 small Papua opt Lakatoi 2/6 black & brown, error opt VERTICAL reading DOWN, horiz wmk. Stamp superb fresh MUH, pristine never hinged original gum, UL cnr marginal. SG 37a cat £7500 for M, should be at least double, £15,000 MUH, plus premium for cnr marginal. Great rarity as only 1 sheet of 30 existed & due to vert vs horiz format some stamps only had partial opts while this is most desirable in having a full opt in middle. Certainly unique as a MUH positional example. 1980 BPA photo-cert.(Lot 3253) Numerous other European and Asian rarities as well.
