Interasia’s June 26-29 auction of China, Hong Kong and Asian stamps and postal history will take place at the Excelsior Hotel in Causeway Bay in Hong Kong. The four-day, 3,800-lot sale includes another outstanding offering of China and Hong Kong stamps and postal history, with important Ching Dynasty and Republic, substantial postal history, Taiwan, Tibet, Mongolia, and a large offering of People’s Republic and Liberated Areas. Hong Kong and Treaty Ports alone comprises 700 lots, while the Other Asian Countries features the first of two parts of the Dr. Taizo Maeda international gold medal collection of North Korea.
Sale #51 is the T.S. Yang Collection of Chinese Customs and Imperial Posts. Formed over a period of over 40 years, the collection includes a fine representation of the stamp issues, in-depth cancellation studies and unusual postal history.
Sale #52 is the Nostalgia Collection of French Mail to and from China, Japan and Indochina.
Sale #53 is the 800-lot People’s Republic of China and Liberated Areas and represents another outstanding offering of these popular subjects, for which Interasia has become known. 250 lots of Liberated Areas are followed by the large offering of PRC issues. Complementing multiple examples of the PRC popular sets and miniature sheets are a range of complete sheets including two 1980 Year of the Monkey sheets, as well as rarities, including the two 1964 unissued Peking Opera Masks examples pictured in the Yang catalogue, five examples of the 1968 “Whole Country is Red” and a mint 1968 unissued Victory stamp.
Sale #54 comprises the 700-lot Hong Kong and Treaty Ports stamps and postal history, along with Philippines and Macau, both of which have good early mail with a Hong Kong/Treaty Port connection. The Hong Kong stamps feature a major collection of Queen Elizabeth II varieties, while the extensive postal history includes the outstanding collection of formed by Mick Goldsmith, the Chairman of the Hong Kong Study Circle.

The June 26 session (lots 267-652, 792-945) consists of China Ching Dynasty and Republic issues and includes a select offering of Large Dragons from the Jane and Dan Sten Olsson collection, with essays, proofs and covers, as well as one of the undoubted highlights of the entire four-day set of auctions -- the unique 1879 Large Dragon cover from the Hancock correspondence used from the Customs Post in Tamsui -- along with specialized Dowagers and 1897 New Currency surcharges, highlighted by the small figures surcharge on the Dowager first printing 10c. on 9ca. double surcharge and an exceptional mint example of the legendary “Red Ruby," an 1897 Red Revenue small figures 2c. inverted surcharge mint block of four; and a very nice section of Gold Yuan.
The June 27 session (lots 1813-2234) includes China special purpose stamps and collections, as well as Other Asian Countries and Worldwide. The Other Asian Countries feature the first part of the Dr. Taizo Maeda International Gold Medal collection of North Korea, while the Worldwide includes a British Empire collection offered in suitable lots.

The July 18 session (lots 1-942) consists of China Ching Dynasty and Republic issues, as well as Chinese Provinces, Manchuria Local Overprints, Manchukuo, Japanese Occupation of China, Taiwan, Tibet, Mongolia, and Chinese Local Posts. Among the highlights are an 1882 Large Dragon/U.S. combination cover from the U.S.S. Palos at Tientsin to Iowa sent through the U.S. Postal Agency in Shanghai, a magnificent 1886 Large Dragon combination cover from Tientsin to Germany, one of only three recorded Large Dragon registered covers during the proper period, specialized 1894 Dowagers and 1897 New Currency surcharges with over 250 lots replete with rarities and varieties, 1897 Red Revenue 1c. reconstructed mint sheet of 100 (comprised of four positional panes), Coiling Dragons complete in unused blocks of four, and a remarkable 12-volume specialized collection of the Manchuria Local Overprints offered intact.
The July 19 session (lots 1633-2069) comprises Foreign Post Offices in China, as well as China Postal Stationery and Covers, and includes a broad range of postal history.
The July 20 session (lots 3001-3609) comprises the 500-lot Hong Kong and Treaty Ports stamps and postal history, as well as Macau and Other Asian Countries. Hong Kong highlights include Queen Victoria mint blocks, QEII errors and a very nice range of the Postal Fiscals, with the two $10 mint, errors and blocks. The postal history includes a fine section of accountancy marks, as well as early Canton mail and an 1873/74 circular from Tientsin, one of the earliest civilian usages recorded from this port. Other Asian Countries include Bhutan essays and proofs and rare Japanese and Thai Occupation of Malaya.

Elephant essay, important Dowager and Dowager surcharge varieties, 1897 Red Revenue Small 2c. inverted surcharge mint block of four, 1c. reconstructed mint sheet of 100 (from four positional panes) and $5 inverted surcharge mint, and Provisional Neutrality overprints. The postal history includes an 1873 cover from the Vapereau correspondence with the “Customs House/Shanghai/Paid” dater, a very rare “Customs/Tamsuy” cover, a select offering of Small Dragon covers, and a new find of classic correspondence to Reverend J.N. Hayes.
